Jhau forest at Bakkhali

Padakshep
After a long time we took our padakshep this time - BAKKHALI sea side village of south West Bengal. It is accessible by roads, but have to cross the famous hataniya-doyania river at Namkhana.

Ticket fare is Rs 100.00 plus Rs 3.00 for reservation. The train service is only available from Sealdah till Namkhana which takes about 2 hours. From Namkhana it is about 45 minutes journey by road. The train fare is Rs 20.00.

Short break at Diamond harbor

On the morning of 15th Aug 2008 we started for Bakkhali. It was around 6.30 in the morning, we took a cab and reached Dharamtalla. The bus started dot on time. We got the bad news from one of the crew members of the bus - hotels are not available due to heavy rush so hope for the best. The weather was perfect for the journey - overcast, sometimes raining a bit and not hot and humid the usual weather of Bengal.

The journey was wonderful specially after we crossed JOKA. The scenic beauty was excellent.
Hotel Sea View

We reached Namkhana at around 12 Noon. As usual there was heavy rush to cross the river. We decided to leave the bus and cross the river by motor boat and take another bus from the other side. The local bus, trekker service is available from there. The local bus fare is Rs 11.00 . At last arround 2 PM we reached heavely crowded Bakkhali - due to long weak end. As there was heavy rush chances for an hotel accommodation was very low, so we decided to take our lunch first and then start the searching. Lots of ettaries are there on the road side so food in not at all problem here. Food is available in various range - Rs.12 to Rs.14 for a veg meal and Rs.24 to Rs.45 for fish meal depending the choice of fish - Rui/Katla/Hilsha etc oh Pron and Lobstars are also very popular here. After having our lunch with Hilsha we finally got an accomodation at Hotel Sea View for Rs.350.00 per day but it was a nice hotel and I recommend to stay here. Sea is only a kilometer from this hotel and the van-rikshaw is always available for a ride to the sea beach for Rs.3.00 only.
